Problem/Need:
We need to build a hammock that will allow for; laying, relaxing, studying on.
Problem Statement:
There is a need for a hammock that is comfortable, relaxing, sturdy, aesthetically pleasing, inspired by nature, affordable, stable and durable.
Final Design
The design we have chosen to use and continue our project with is the hammock with two wooden legs as the base. Since our brainstorm sketch, we've come up with more cool ideas to incorporate into the hammocks design that will make it overall a better piece of furniture,

Detailed Drawing Detailed Description:
Ever since deciding our initial idea we have looked deeper into nature and figured out what exactly about nature inspires us to make this particular piece of furniture. Nothing is more stable and sturdy than a tree and its roots, which is why we made the overall width of our hammock bigger for it to be structurally stable and secure. To help achieve a better piece of furniture that is not only inspired by nature, but different than hammock structures than you can find online, we also incorporated pieces of wood to the arms of the hammock to look like some sort of a tree branch. Our original design had three pieces of vertical laying pieces of wood for our base but we decided that to would be sufficient and even make our hammock more sturdy because if the middle piece were to break or bend, it would affect the rest of the structure. Our new design proves to be a structurally strong design that doesn't look too bad and can support 4450 lbs+. It is supportive, and won't fall over if you swing in it.

Project Reflection:
Our final product is a hammock structure inspired by a tree branch. If you look at the arms you will notice that they almost mock the shape of a stereotypical branch, there is also a hidden inspiration which isn't as noticeable, the hammock structure is inspired by tree roots. When you lay in the hammock the structure is level an sturdy so the stand itself doesn't move, rock, or creek. Building this took us about four months with all the drafting, designing and CADing. One of the hardest parts about making this hammock was probably choosing the color because my group and I couldn't agree on a color, but in the end we went with a Dark Walnut color. In the end after our hard work we created a piece of furniture that we are all proud of.
