International Iron Products is a group if structural engineers that work under the auspices of Price Industries. Quite competitive in the Steel Trade market, they are known for their great reputation in punctually completing quality work. Along with an Administrative office International Iron Products also owns their own Steel Fabrication shop right in the "back yard" of their offices. The company has many roles in completing a project which include; Purchase managing, Project managing, field measuring, Steel detailing etc. all working in tandem to complete the best quality work possible.
As part of my internship my project was building the company website, along with a couple sub-projects which included making International Iron Products brochures and business cards. So overall you could say I was the companies "Public Relations" guy. The President of International Iron Products was pleased with the brochures because the haven't had printed propaganda since the 80's. Especially considering how busy the company is, this website was extremely beneficial to them. Prior to my internship International Iron Products didn't own a website, so putting one together gave them yet another competitive edge against their competitors.
Overall in this internship I learned that you're kind of on your own, in terms of whatever you're working on. There isn't always going to be someone there to guide you. So I really learned to be resourceful. On the first couple of days of internship my mentor and the rest of the company was extremely busy, so they couldn't exactly give me anything to do. From there I brainstormed possible projects and proposed them the next day. As I began to work on the website I started by making looking up good things to put on a company website and studied their competitors, in order to produce a quality website for the company.
Lately I've been in a battle with myself about what I really want to pursue in and after college. This internship has helped me realize structural engineering isn't exactly the best fit for me. I used this experience as a chance to stray away from engineering. When I saw the opportunity to do something for the business like being their "Public Relations" I jumped at it. This showed me that starting a business is definitely something I'm interested in.
